It was a bit difficult getting back into the design mode after being away so long. But I took some inspiration from some fellow SU demos to get started. Mary Fish posted a great card on her blog on Sunday for Earth Day. She used the soon-to-be-retired stamp set Trendy Trees. (Click HERE to see Mary's card.) So I pulled mine out of my pile of retiring stamps and got started. I had bookmarked a card from Deb Currier from last year that used this same stamp set. I used her focal image idea and went from there. Click HERE to see Deb's card that inspired mine. Then to keep the theme of Earth Day I used a custom stamp to encourage the recipient to recycle the card. This was originally Mary Fish's idea and she posted about it HERE. Finally, my card was designed and ready to be prepped. Here's how it came out.
So how good am I at predicting the retiring products? Evidently not so good. When I saw that the Fifth Avenue Floral stamp set was retiring I was sure that they would also retire the Manhattan Flower embossing folder that coordinates with one of the flowers. I wanted to use this embossing folder one more time so I designed my second card for Canal St. with the stamp set and embossing folder. Then when the retiring accessories list came out on Wednesday morning that embossing folder was not retired. So we used it yesterday in class and I'll continue to use it even more.
I forgot to get pictures of Carrie's cards yesterday. They were great as usual. I'll try to get a picture in the next few days and post those also. The next class for Canal Street is May 10. Hope to see you there.
