Making My Own Plaid

Sunday, March 6, 2011  at 7:06 AM
Today is my Dad's birthday.  Gary recently took him to lunch at a new place called the Tilted Kilt.  He loved it so we got him a gift card from there for his birthday.  I haven't been there but Gary describes it as a Scottish "Hooters" (with good food!)  The waitresses all wear little short kilts.  So I wanted to make his birthday card match the gift card.  I needed plaid but we don't have any so I made my own.  It was a really fun and easy project.  Just use the brush side of a Stampin' Marker and drag it across Whisper White card stock.  I didn't use a ruler to make it straight, just went with a more whimical plaid.  I was very pleased with how it turned out.  To hold the gift card I made a slit on another piece of Whisper White card stock using the Word Window punch.  Just punch and slide over and punch again until you have an opening wide enough for the gift card.

Supplies (all Stampin' Up!)
Stamp Set:  Afterthoughts (level one hostess set)
Card Stock:  Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight, Whisper White
Ink:  Garden Green, Cherry Cobbler, and Daffodil Delight Stampin' Markers
Accessories:  Cherry Cobbler 1/2" Seam Binding Ribbon, Metallic 3/16" Brad, Stampin' Dimensionals
Tools:  Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Word Window Punch

I think I'll try more of the plaid.  What about nice soft colors for an Easter or spring card?

This so cute! I love starting my mornings discovering what you have posted as a card... And along the way keeping track of your friends and family via your cards. This plaid is really on of the best!

I got up at 6:00 this morning and made a card just because. I wasn't happy with my color selection, used pinks, wanted reds, and then I opened your site and saw the card you made for your dad. I immediately jumped up and dragged a marker across my work paper. Voila!! I love it.
